Central Subway Yerba Buena/Moscone Station

San Francisco, CA

MWA designed the YerbaBuena/Moscone (YB/MOS) Station on the new Central Subway line, from concept designs through construction documents. We coordinated our work with the other station and tunnel designers; the Art Commission; and the client, SFMTA.

YB/MOS links urban design and transportation featuring daylighting from street to ticket level, including the glass elevators. A generous canopy protects passengers flowing down into a light-filled space providing connections to City transportation networks. The platform is lit by a full luminous ceiling bringing general illumination to the underground space.

YB/MOS is a celebration of transportation as civic art. Intended to withstand the impact of thousands of passengers, materials like concrete, glass, stone, and a metal skin will help keep this public asset looking fresh and easily maintainable. Major art installations at street, plaza, and ticketing and concourse act to add interest and serve as iconic way finding for commuters.
